Richard Swett is the only architect to serve in the U.S. Congress during the 20th century and one of very few in the nation’s history to have served in the diplomatic corps. In Congress, he was a member of the Public Works and Transportation Committee; the Committee on Science, Space and Technology; the U.S. Congressional Delegation for Relations with the European Parliament; and the Congressional Human Rights Caucus. He authored the Transportation for Livable Communities Act, coauthored the landmark Congressional Accountability Act, and introduced bills on energy conservation and use of renewable energy. In the private sector, his experience includes architectural design, project and corporate management, and development. Swett was a state chair for the U.S. Olympic Committee; he authored LEADERSHIP BY DESIGN: Creating an Architecture of Trust and was also a contributing author for the book, A NATION RECONSTRUCTED: A Quest for the Cities That Can Be. Twice he has been awarded the Presidential citation by the AIA, in addition to numerous other awards, honorary degrees, and a Knighthood by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. He is currently CEO of Climate PROSPERITY Enterprise Solutions, LLC, a integrating platform software company combining architecture, energy analysis and economic operations in a 3D game environment for project design, development and management.
