Amanda's Bio

Graduation Year: 1995, 2004

I started running when I was 19 years old. I hated it. But I persevered and dutifully ran 3 miles a few times a week. After I graduated from Tufts in 1995, I worked on Boylston St., directly in line with the Boston Marathon finish line. As it happened, my first Boston Marathon experience was 1996 - the 100th running of the race. As tradition would dictate, our office drank beer and cheered on finisher, after finisher, after finisher. I was in awe of how many people were crossing the finish line. Though I could only run 3 or 4 miles at that time, I knew that one day I would run Boston. Fast forward 15 years. I live in Washington DC now and still run. I achieved my marathon goal last year completing the Marine Corps Marathon in October 2010. Now, I set my sights on Boston. I am thrilled to run with the Tufts Marathon Team in support of healthy lifestyle initiatives - an area I focus on both personally and professionally. As a double jumbo (I graduated from the School of Medicine with a MS in Health Communication in 2004), I am especially proud to represent my school in Boston next spring. Thank you for your support!

Quotes

"As a marathoner you now become a member of a very select group of individuals...The One Percenters! And what is that? Of the entire world's population, less than one percent have ever completed a marathon. This makes each of you a member of a VERY select and special group!"
